I was rooting for them and it’s safe to say Carmel Rhodes now has a new reader.“It was more comfortable than I could have imagined,” is how The Unit begins, with Dorrit, a single, impoverished 50-year-old woman picked up from her home in a metallic red SUV and transported to a luxury facility constructed by the government for people just like her. Overall Thoughts: Overall, this was a great story and I loved Noah and Tru. It would have bothered me if Carmel left it the way it was and he never apologized for his actions. I appreciated that Carmel made sure Noah knew it and that he did everything to make it right. What he did to her was unacceptable and it caused her some pretty bad PTSD. Things I Didn’t Like: Obviously, I did not like the beginnings of Noah and Trus relationship. It made it that much more special when they finally reconnected. It was actually great that Carmel had Tru go off to college with Noah in the back of her mind. It would have been cliché for them to magically mend their relationship. Although it was sad that Noah and Tru broke up after she finds out that he has betrayed her in the worst way, it made sense. He learns more about himself but most importantly he learns more about who Tru is. Noah doesn’t realize it right away but, the road trip is just as important for him. Tru finds herself in so many ways on her road trip and so does Noah. I enjoyed reading all of the journal entries from Trus mom and then getting to read Trus journey exploring every place they went to. She made it clear she didn’t have to just accept his behavior. I love Tru because she is such a strong young woman and she kept Noah in his place. Things I Liked: I couldn’t put this book down and my goodness, Noah Tedesco! Tru and Noah’s relationship was definitely unconventional from the start. When she told me about this book I was intrigued especially since it’s similar to books I’ve read by B.
Initial Thoughts: Carmel Rhodes was a new author for me that was introduced to me by my sister. Now that I’m on his radar, my life will never be the same. Noah wasn’t supposed to look twice at a girl like me, but he did. Noah Tedesco is so far out of my league he might as well be playing a different game. The hot jock with the trust fund and chip on his shoulder. Only, it wasn’t supposed to start like this. It was supposed to be about losing myself and finding my way. It was supposed to be full of adventure and self-discovery and making love under the stars. The summer after senior year was supposed to be the best summer of my life.
